How it works

The route of your donation

  1. The donor pays Using their preferred payment method, secured with SCA and 3D Secure.
  2. Transfer to escrow account Mollie and PayPal transfer the donations directly from their escrow accounts to the Payaut / Nuvei escrow account.
  3. Campaign organizer verification Payaut / Nuvei verifies the identity and bank account of the organizer (KYC).
  4. Weekly payout Once verified, Payaut / Nuvei transfers the funds directly from their escrow account to the organizer.

Donations and payouts run exclusively through the segregated escrow accounts of Mollie, PayPal, and Payaut / Nuvei — never through the bank account of Sponsor Europe.

Donating safely

Every donation through Spendenaktion runs over secure connections and through payment partners under regulatory supervision. As a donor you can be sure your money ends up in the right place.

SSL encryption

All data between your browser and Spendenaktion is sent encrypted via an SSL certificate. You can tell by the padlock in the address bar. Nobody can read along or intercept your data.

Payment partners with a PSD2 licence

Donations are processed by Mollie and PayPal, payment service providers with a PSD2 licence that are supervised by European regulators such as the Dutch central bank (DNB). Payouts run through Payaut (part of Nuvei), which also holds a PSD2 licence.

Escrow accounts

Donations and payouts pass through the escrow accounts of our payment partners and are strictly separated from Sponsor Europe, the owner of the platform. Even in the unlikely event that Sponsor Europe ceases to exist, your donations and payouts remain safe.

SCA and 3D Secure

All payment methods comply with Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), the extra security step required by the PSD2 directive. Credit card payments are only accepted with 3D Secure: you confirm the payment with your own bank or card issuer.

A platform you can trust

Spendenaktion only allows legitimate fundraisers. Organisers are verified, accounts can be given extra protection and abuse is actively monitored, by us and by the crowd.

KYC verification

KYC stands for Know Your Customer. Before anything is paid out, we and our payment partner verify the identity and bank account of every organiser. This keeps the platform from being misused and makes sure the money reaches the right person.

Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Protect your account with an extra step next to your password. Only you can then access your fundraiser, donations and payouts, even if your password were ever leaked. We recommend every organiser to enable 2FA.

Abuse monitoring

Fundraisers we suspect of being illegitimate or having wrong intentions are investigated and removed. Besides our own checks, every visitor can report abuse. That way the crowd keeps an eye on things too.

Clear rules

Every fundraiser must comply with the guidelines in our terms and conditions. Personal data is processed in line with the GDPR and our privacy policy.

Seen something suspicious?

Every fundraiser page has a "Report abuse" link at the bottom. We investigate every report and remove fundraisers that break the rules.
